What is asbestos analysis?

Asbestos analysis (often referred to as bulk analysis) is the checking of materials for the presence of asbestos fibres. These are identified using a variety of techniques but essentially the material sample is placed under a microscope and analysed using specialised tools, liquids and equipments.

How can AMS help?

AMS are UKAS accredited for the Identification of Asbestos Fibres in Bulk Materials in accordance with standard ISO 17025. Our state-of-the-art Kent laboratory is sufficiently equipped to process several thousand bulk samples a month. Our computer systems allow us to Email analysis results (or post if required) making it easy to satisfy our national portfolio of clients by delivering accurate results quickly.

Analysis is carried out in accordance with the HSE's HSG248 'Asbestos: The analysts’ guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures’ publication which superseded the previous MDHS77 guide.

Individuals

We are happy to come and take a sample if you have found suspect materials in your house or workplace. Potentially hazardous Asbestos building materials such as Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB) and textured coating (sometimes known as Artex) were commonly used in the home and many people are not comfortable to have them around. Plumbers, electricians and gas-fitters will often refuse to work around certain materials until they have been analysed and made safe.
